Hale Sirin
Program Scientist
Hale Sirin is a Program Scientist at Schmidt Sciences AI and Advanced Computing Institute and an Assistant Research Professor at Johns Hopkins University. Her research investigates how AI can understand language, culture, and narrative across the world’s linguistic diversity, aiming to advance the multilingual capabilities of AI models. At Schmidt Sciences, she leads programs focusing on AI for humanities and advancing research in multi-agent communication and coordination. Previously, she was a postdoctoral fellow in computational linguistics at Johns Hopkins, focusing on AI research for cultural heritage. She holds a PhD from Johns Hopkins and an MA from the University of Chicago. She is an active member of the AI and Society research community, serving on the program committees of NLP4DH and the ACL Special Interest Group on Language Technologies for the Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities.
