Dr. Bruno Basso is the John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor and MSU Research Foundation Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University. He is an internationally recognized agricultural systems scientist, whose research focuses on sustainable agriculture. He holds global patents on remote sensing and crop modeling for improving crop productivity, ecosystem services, and sustainability. Bruno is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Agronomy, and the Soil Science Society of America. He is also a member of the Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, and multiple scientific advisory boards. Bruno has been recognized by several prestigious awards (Morgan Stanley Sustainability Solution Prize, Soil Science Society of America Research Award, Ag Systems Modeling Award, 2016 Michigan State Innovation of the year, and 2025 MSU Technology Transfer Award), and he is ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists, across all disciplines (Stanford University). Dr. Basso, who received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University, is the co-founder of CIBO Technology (start-up) and The Soil Inventory Project (NGO).
