Carlie Wiener
Director of Communications
Dr. Carlie Wiener is the Director of Communications for Schmidt Sciences. She has more than eighteen years of leadership in science communications working internationally with a focus on partnerships, strategy, research, community outreach, evaluation, and professional leadership. Carlie previously served for ten years as the Director of Communications and Engagement Strategy for Schmidt Ocean Institute. She excels in communicating with diverse groups and enjoys the implementation of research for meaningful application and partnership building.
Carlie has spoken at the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, sat on the Science Advisory Board for the global Ocean Race, and acted as the Chair of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science Communications Advisory Board for two terms. She holds a Masters and PhD in Environmental Studies from York University in Toronto, Canada. Carlie also hosted the monthly marine science podcast, All Things Marine for six years, and has taught several courses on communicating ocean sciences for the public. She has more than twelve peer-reviewed publications spanning research in ecosystem based management, qualitative analysis, environmental impact, and science education.
