Daniel A. Lee is a Senior Program Scientist at Schmidt Sciences, where he shapes scientific strategy and impact initiatives in the Office of the President.
With two decades of experience tackling interdisciplinary challenges in the physical and biological sciences, Dan has led global research and philanthropic programs in climate science, AI, and talent development. Previously at Schmidt Sciences and Schmidt Futures, he created and managed large charitable initiatives that drive scientific innovation and amplify international impact in these topic areas.
Dan is an active member of his community. He advises non-profit leaders, co-founded two nonprofits, and has served on the Wiseburn Education Foundation board of directors. As a scientist, he has pursued interdisciplinary research in various scientific disciplines, publishing over 20 peer-reviewed papers in materials science, chemical engineering, neuroscience, and genetics. He has earned scientific accolades from the NIH, NSF, DHS, NASA, and Caltech for his research. Dan holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins and a B.A. in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley.
