Professor Elisabeth Holland is internationally recognized for her pioneering work on the carbon and nitrogen cycles and their role in the Earth System 1. Her research has significantly advanced our understanding of these critical biogeochemical cycles and their impact on climate change. Professor Holland has contributed to five of the six Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report cycles and has served as an IPCC representative and author for multiple countries. Her work with the IPCC and Al Gore was recognized with the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
In addition to her research, Professor Holland has held various prestigious positions, including Director of the Pacific Center for Environment and Sustainable Development (PaCE-SD) at the University of the South Pacific, and Professor of Ocean and Climate Change and Norway Pacific Chair in Oceans and Climate Change 1. She has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers, which have been cited over 100,000 times, and has an h-index of 70 2. Professor Holland serves on several advisory boards, including the Schmidt Science Virtual Institute for the Carbon Cycles, the American Geophysical Union Editorial Board, and the US Secretary of Navy’s Education for Sea Power Advisory Board. Before her work in the Pacific, she was a founding member of the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Germany and a Senior Scientist at the National Centre for Atmospheric Research in the USA.
