Pete Klupar

Executive Director

Pete Klupar is an Executive Director at Schmidt Sciences, leading efforts to accelerate our understanding of the Universe through innovative, cost-effective space technologies. His work focuses on developing advanced computational tools, instrumentation, and in space platforms that dramatically reduce time and cost compared to traditional approaches. His expertise spans communications, infrared early warning, Earth observation, space control, and deep space exploration.

Throughout his career, Mr. Klupar has pioneered transformative aerospace technologies—from electric propulsion and proximity operations to low-cost miniaturized sensor systems. He has led mission-critical programs at NASA Ames, the Air Force Research Lab, and the Breakthrough Foundation, where he oversaw projects including SETI, exoplanet search, and interstellar laser propulsion.

A strong advocate of model-based systems engineering, he has applied advanced simulation, guidance and control, and Hardware-in-the-Loop testing techniques to reduce costs and accelerate delivery across multiple government and commercial platforms.

As a program leader, Mr. Klupar has been responsible for over $1 billion in mission execution, with a track record of innovation, cost-efficiency, and delivery. He holds an MBA in Finance and a BSME from the University of Arizona.
