Dr. Sarah Fawcett is an Associate Professor in the Oceanography Department at the University of Cape Town, and currently also the Deputy Dean for Transformation in the Faculty of Science. Her research is focused on the cycling of biologically important elements (particularly nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen) in the marine environment, including the Southern Ocean, the Benguela upwelling system, and the Agulhas Current region. To address her questions of ocean fertility, local and global biogeochemical cycling, and ecosystem health, Sarah relies largely on field- and lab based sampling and measurements, including of nitrogen isotopes.
