Dr. Edem Mahu is a senior lecturer of marine biogeochemistry at the University of Ghana. Her work spans past climate reconstruction, nutrient dynamics, coastal upwelling, pollution, marine ocean acidification, and nature-based solutions for climate adaptation. She co-leads the MANCOGA: Mangroves as Nature-based Solutions to Coastal Hazards project (www.mancoga.org). She leads several global efforts to bridge gaps in ocean science capacity, including her role as a co-chair of the Ocean Decade Vision 2030 process for Challenge 9 on capacity development, a steering group member for the newly established Ocean Decade capacity development facility, and a steering committee member of the ocean best practices system. She received the 2022 American Geophysical Union Africa Award for Research Excellence in Ocean Science. She is a National Geographic Explorer, an Affiliate of the African Academy of Sciences, and an African Initiative for Scientific Excellence (ARISE) fellow
