Dr. Emma Wolpert is an Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Research Fellow in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London. She completed her DPhil in Inorganic Chemistry with Prof. Andrew Goodwin at the University of Oxford in 2021, working on using statistical mechanical models to find structure analogues of complex emergent behaviour found in magnetic materials. After her DPhil, she began a postdoc in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London with Prof. Kim Jelfs and developed coarse-grained methodology for predicting the crystalline phase behaviour of molecular materials, in particular organic semiconductors and porous molecular materials.

Her research focuses on exploiting the information gained from toy models to understand the interplay of molecular shape and interactions on the solid-state phase behaviour of materials. These toy models are based on molecules but are computationally inexpensive due to their low resolution. This allows for the generation of a large amount of qualitative data, which serve as training data for AI-driven materials design.
