Dr. Melissa Omand is an Associate Professor of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island, Graduate School of Oceanography. She develops autonomous platforms and tools to measure the ocean biological carbon pump. Her focus is on single-use instrumentation that is built and deployed at relatively low cost, enabling distributed, and persistent undersea observations over regional scales. She is also a co-founder of Nereid Biomaterials, designing plastics for sensors that can biodegrade in the ocean.
