Dr. Schirhagl obtained a PhD from Vienna University where she studied
chemistry and biology. After 2 postdocs at Stanford University and ETH Zurich started her own group
at Groningen University at the University Medical Center Groningen in 2014. In total she has
received over 12 mln EUR in research funding including for instance an ERC starting grant or the
Dutch VIDI grant. Romana’s research focus is on quantum sensing for biomedical applications. In
2024, Romana founded the spin off company QTsense to commercialise quantum sensing
equipment.
