Soumi received her PhD in Chemistry in 2021 from IIT Bombay, India where she employed computational tools to identify important interactions between catalyst and reactants in asymmetric reactions and developed new electronic structure methods for non-covalent interactions. In November of 2021 she joined as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan and worked on developing a theoretical method to calculate accurate exchange correlation potentials to improve density functionals. Starting from February, 2023 Soumi joined the Schmidt AI in Science program where she is employing AI to learn new density functionals to enable computationally affordable calculations for challenging chemical systems with strong electron correlation.
